Figure in Rods

MICAS is proud to unveil Figure in Rods, the final masterpiece of visionary Maltese artist Ray Pitrè. This poignant sculpture, which explores themes of psychological confinement through a striking assemblage of steel rods, will be permanently displayed on the museum's campus. Pitrè, one of Malta’s earliest proponents of Arte Povera, worked closely with MICAS on the bronze rendering of this powerful piece, though sadly, he passed before seeing its completion.

The unveiling will be accompanied by a temporary exhibition curated by Joseph Paul Cassar, a leading expert in Maltese modern art, further exploring the evolution of Pitrè’s work. Join us in celebrating the legacy of this remarkable artist and his profound contributions to contemporary art.

“BONE – is a collection of fossilized structures. The architectural relationship that oscillates back and forth from the simple and the complex to the living and the dead connects space and form, creating existential structures of interwoven silence”.
